Why, Why, Why do people have no pride in their areas. What does it take to lift the sweet wrappers outside your door or give your door a lick of paint or cut your garden? Can you expect people who have no respect for their own property to have respect for yours? I live in a part of Newry which at different times can resemble something akin to a slum in the "Hungry Thirties" Of course there are plenty of people here just like everywhere else who take pride in their area but sadly it's all too easily overshadowed by derelict houses, gardens resembling jungles, Graffiti, streets littered with rubbish and you can't blame the street cleaners - They didn't put it there!

If people aren't prepared to renovate their empty properties they should be forced to sell them to someone who is! As I said before a lick of paint isn't going to break the bank for anyone.

Thankfully Canal Street is now part of an on-going renovation project in the area but after renovations are complete we are just back to square one if the new residents occupying these restored properties have no respect for them.

Where has it all went wrong. We can't blame unemployment any more. We can blame occupiers with drink and drug addictions but that's much too simplistic. Ultimately responsibility lies with the property owners themselves. Anyway got to go and water my Giant Hogweed's or they will not be ready for the Show!
